Welcome to District 16 of the North American Model Boating Association. There are currently three active clubs in District 16 - The Calgary Model Boat Racing Association (CMBRA), the Edmonton Model Boat Racing Association (EMBRA) and the Manitoba Rudder Benders based in Winnipeg. Please follow the links on the left for more information.
January 2, 2003 Happy new year! To start the new year off right (???) we have two more versions of the logo - number 7 is a modification of #5 to make it embroider better, and number 8 is another idea to make it embroider better. These have to be the last ones... December 30, 2002 We have been advised that our logo design was basically good, but in order to embroider properly in the appropriate size, we needed to make some changes: NAMBA in larger letters and no black outline on the District 16 lettering - see logo 6 below - click to enlarge. December 21, 2002 A number of changes to the site over the last few days. A new menu system and a bunch of new pictures: Check out the Crazy Al section for pics from the 2002 Classique Invitational, and the Edmonton photogalleries for some new and some very old pictures. Have a great holiday season everyone! December 9th, 2002 More good suggestions than I can count! (This is a good thing!) Here's Logos 4 and 5 which incorporate several changes. The bottom of the maple leaf from Logo 2 seemed to be liked best by most, and the bigger boat from Logo 3 was asked for too. I also worked a bit on the leaf for symmetry. We're close folks...webmaster@namba16.com December 7th, 2002 The Calgary club had a meeting and discussed the logo. The following are interpretations of what was suggested at the meeting (click on each for a larger version)... Based on early feedback, these are the only ones in the running. The others listed below are simply a history of how the logo has developed. Please offer some feedback on these three - which one do you like?...webmaster@namba16.com Hopefully this will be the final cut. November 27, 2002 Yet another flavour... November 26, 2002 Another logo design! Based on the same components of the other logos, this one depicts the boat running flat as opposed to being in the middle of a flip. I also made this one up as it could be used for an Alberta Region High Points logo. Comments appreciated... November 18, 2002 More logo feedback - logo 5 straightens the turbine stack... November 17, 2002 There has been some logo feedback (not much, but some very constructive feedback!) Logo 4 - adds some definition and colour to the text, the outlines have been enhanced and this is definitely a candidate for a generic District 16 logo as opposed to an Alberta regional logo. Please let me know what you think at webmaster@namba16.com: November 15, 2002 The hunt for a district logo has heated up...one design has been put forward in a number of variations (rough ideas): Logo 1 - a generic district logo for the front of a shirt, with the "2002 High Points Champion, Alberta Region and the class(es) listed on the back of the shirt. Click on each logo for a larger version. Logo 2 - an all in one logo (could be very cluttered - might not embroider very well) Logo 3 - another all in one version - similar to logo 2 District 16 members - please forward your comments and design ideas to webmaster@namba16.com. October 7th, 2002 Crazy Als race info and new "for sale" items September 17, 2002 The last race in Calgary saw fantastic weather. We were able to clean up a few races we lost in the spring due to inclement weather. Both days were warm, sunny and had little wind. The racing skills, honed by practice and racing finally showed off. There were a lot of tight races. Seeing hydros perking along at 60 mph side by side was quite exciting. Congratulations to all the district winners. A couple of class leads changed with the last race(s) so it was important to show up for all races. I noticed that Rob Duckering just squeaked by Bruce Blackett in B Mono with 25 points to spare. That's got to be about as close as you can get over a season. Updated district points have been posted... September 9, 2002 Updated district points The next race is in Calgary Sept 14, 15 followed the next weekend by the Crazy Al Classique International in Whitefish Montana. The Calgary race will have some make ups to do. On Saturday, we will add missed races in B-Hydro, B-OPC, B-mono and X-hydro. They will follow the normal races to be run on Saturday; A's, C's and Sport 40. If there are not enough C-Mono's, we will run an Open-mono class. Check with Brian Thursday or Friday to confirm what will run. On Sunday, we will pick up S-40, C-Hydro and Open-Mono, again, after the regular scheduled B's and X's have run. If the weekend is a washout, we will try for the weekend of October 5. Anytime after that an it's not much chance of a decent warm weekend. One of our members had most of his boats and tools stolen on Sunday night (September 1st, 2002) after the race in Edmonton. Some bargains to be had folks... Gold Cup this weekend in Edmonton - twins are a go for sure if the weather gods work with us. Should be the biggest race of the year - Barbeque on Saturday night... August 27, 2002 New for sale items... August 26, 2002 New for sale item... August 21, 2002 Attendance at the August 16/17 race in Edmonton was hampered by a number of members from both Edmonton and Calgary being away on holidays. The weather gods smiled on us once again with perfectly flat water until about 4pm. Due to the light racing schedule, we were able to run both the Saturday and Sunday classes on Saturday - except X-Hydro which was winded out right at the end of the day. We will run this class on August 31 and will be open to only the people that entered in Edmonton. This race saw the debut of two new boats - Allan Yuen's new Seaducer C-Mono and Andrew Ellwood's Mutt-II Sport 40. Both boats showed a great deal of promise - Allan won C-Mono outright! The next race is Edmonton's traditional Gold Cup on the Labor Day weekend. This race promises to be one of the biggest of the year with racers from Montana, Manitoba, B.C. and Alberta. There is even rumor that the multi-engine boats will make an appearance. Get your boats tuned up as there are some classes that are being contested very hotly. Andrew and Laurel are hosting a barbeque on Saturday night - maps will be provided at the pond. There will also be testing at the pond on Friday afternoon prior to the race. It appears that there are a few of the out-of-town crowd that want to be properly set up to run in Edmonton. Contact Andrew or Rob for more information See you August 31... August 20, 2002 Latest district results are posted - some very tight classes... Just got back from Calgary where the weather gods finally smiled and let
us race. Great conditions and even better racing. Andrew, Perry,
Bruce and Rob represented Edmonton and took home a ton of points. Andrew
raced for the first time this year and took B-Hydro with 1425 points and
C Mono with 1225 and drove like he was racing all year. Perry had
his A-Mono flying and took that class as well. Bruce was running
great but I'm not sure how his points stacked up as the points haven't
shown up on the site just yet. Rob had a good weekend with wins in
B-Opc, B-Mono and a good showing in sport-40 (1225 points) until another
crank let go in another K&B 7.5. The MAC is back in for good...
Mike Lakusta from Elkford B.C. (an EMBRA member from a few years back)
showed up with his 7.5 spider and took second in B-Hydro to Andrew.
He also brought his 67-80 spider that produced great results - and he
had a really good time too! Welcome back Mike!
Brian and Barb Jessup from Calgary put on a barbeque on Saturday night where we all re-lived some old racing stories (Al - that old Reno 85' rigger under the boardwalk still comes up) and some tasty hamburgers and salads galore were polished off - no one went hungry. This is becoming a much anticipated annual event. Thanks Barb and Brian... Next race is in Edmonton August 17-18. Good luck to the guys going to the Nats in Oregon... June 18, 2002 District Points were updated - Edmonton's June 15/16 race had outstanding weather and some great racing action - check out the report under EMBRA News in the Edmonton section of the site. May 7th, 2002 Unfortunately, due to a heavy snow fall, the first race of the year in Calgary had to be cancelled. Please check the Race Schedule page for the new date which will be posted as soon as possible. March 26, 2002 Results for the 2001 season have now been posted. March 15, 2002 Today the NAMBA District 16 website went live at www.namba16.com. This site is designed to provide information about the activities of our organization on an on going basis. Elements that will be added over the coming weeks include upcoming events, race results, more pictures, items for sale, district newsletters, other links, and anything else that the membership can dream up. Members can submit information as you see fit to webmaster@namba16.com. Thanks for your support!
